Introducing the New Microsoft Teams: Faster, Simpler and Smarter - from 14th December 2023
From 6 February 2024, New Teams will become the default app on universitydevices.
Since December, colleagues have had the option to try the new versionof Microsoft Teams, which offers improved performance, a simplified interface, and enhanced features.
Here's a reminder of the upcoming key datesas we transition to New Teams:

6 February 2024: Your default app on university devices will switch to New Teams. You will still have the option to switch back to classic Teams until 31 March 2024.

From 31March 2024: Microsoft will retire Classic Teams.
What to do on 6 February
Most users won't need to do anything. You'll automatically be launched into the New Teams when you open the app.
If you prefer to stick with classic Teams for now, you can easily switch back by turning off the toggle via the three dots in the top right of Teams.
We encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with New Teamsbefore Classic Teams is retired from 31 March 2024.

New Microsoft Teams will soon be available for you to try.
What’s Different in the New Teams?
- Better Performance: New Teams delivers faster performance while using 50 percent less system memory, so it’s smoother and more responsive.
- Simplified User Experience: It’s been simplified and streamlined for ease of use. You can access all your chats, meetings, files, and apps from the left navigation bar. It’s also much easier to switch between different accounts and tenants.
- Cross-Browser Support: New Teams supports multiple browsers, including Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, offering you more flexibility and convenience.
Try the New Teams App
Transition Timeline
- 14 December 2023: Your default app is still Teams Classic, but you can try the New Teams and switch back and forth via the Try the new Teams toggle.
- From early February 2024: Your default app will become New Teams. You’ll still be able to switch back to classic Teams until March 2024.
- From 31 March 2024: Microsoft will retire Classic Teams.
