Transition from Blackboard

 Canvas Logo

Blackboard at Newcastle can no longer be accessed by colleagues or students as the University's license has come to an end. The University has now fully transitioned to Canvas, replacing Blackboard, as the centrally supported Virtual learning Environment.

To access Canvas please go to and login with your <your normal login> and your password.

The Canvas Implementation Team have created Introduction to Canvas courses for both colleagues and students to help you to familiarise yourself with the platform.

For students:

Access the Getting to Know Canvas Course either directly from your Canvas Dashboard or from the Courses area.

For Staff

Access the Canvas Orientation Course either directly from your Canvas Dashboard or from the Courses area.

Student Access to Modules

All students have access to Canvas. You have been enrolled on any 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 course that you had access to in Blackboard. If you can't see a course in Canvas that you should have access to then it may be that the course needs to be published. Please contact your module leader in this instance.

Canvas courses for NU modules in the 2020-21 academic year will be available in September.

How can I get help?

Both colleagues and students can access the Canvas 24/7 support 365 days per year, directly from the Help Menu in Canvas. Please use this excellent resource for any of your 'How do I' Canvas questions.
