2-step Protection for your University Login with MFA

On Monday, 29 March 2021, the University introduced Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), a new measure to help safeguard your information. It requires an extra security step when you sign in to some University IT services.

All staff and PGRs must register their University account for MFA. If you haven’t already done so, you may now be required to complete the registration process before you can access some online services (like Office 365, Teams and Canvas).

How to register

Please be aware, the IT Service Desk can only provide support for MFA registration between 08:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

Enforcement of MFA

On 29 March, we enforced the use of MFA for some University IT services. When logging in, you may be challenged to confirm it is you, via app notification or code, depending on the method you have chosen. You won’t be able to access the resource until you have confirmed it is you.

How often will I be challenged with MFA?

You may be challenged at any time depending on the service you are accessing and which device. If you are using a University device, you may be challenged very infrequently. However, if you are accessing resources from your own device, you may be challenged regularly, and in some cases, every time you log in.

How to get help

Follow the step-by-step instructions to register for MFA.

If you have any questions or concerns, please see the FAQs at go.ncl.ac.uk/mfa-faqs or contact the IT Service Desk.
