Microsoft Office removed from a number of SAgE devices

DOWNGRADE 15:00 Thursday 2nd April:

We believe that we have identified and reinstalled Office on the majority of devices that this issue has affected, therefore no futher updates will be posted.

Please contact the IT Service Desk if Office is not available on your device  

UPDATE 13:00 Thursday 2nd April:

The Major Incident response team continue to investigate and identify affected devices - this information is currently being reviewed by the team so we are able to issue a more comprehensive update.

This will be provided by 15:00 today.

UPDATE 15:15 Wednesday 1st April: 

We have checked 99% of devices that we have identified as potentially being affected by this issue; where we have determined that Office is missing from the device, we have contacted the owner directly to provide a resolution.

Our technical teams continue to identify all devices affected by this issue and are contacting the owners of these devices directly to provide a fix.

UPDATE FRIDAY 27 MARCH 09:35:

Our technical team are investigating and testing a potential fix for this issue.

We have identified that in some cases, the new version of Office (Office365) has automatically installed – if your existing shortcuts to Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel) do not work, please try searching in the Start Menu for “Word” or “Excel”.

In the meantime, if you are affected, Office applications are available via https://portal.office.com (as detailed below) as a workaround; please raise a ticket at https://nuservice.ncl.ac.uk, and include "1144297" in the summary line.

ORIGINAL ISSUE: 

We are aware of an issue which has caused Microsoft Office 2016 to be uninstalled for a number of SAgE faculty staff devices (including those working remotely).

Our technical teams are working to restore this as soon as possible. A further update will be provided by 13:00 today (Thursday 26th March)

If you are affected, as a temporary workaround, you can access Office apps online at https://portal.office.com (sign in using 'userid@newcastle.ac.uk' - please note, this is not your email address, and you cannot use 'ncl.ac.uk')
