Details:
From 23 April 2026, NUIT are introducing Windows 11 as the standard operating system for all new and rebuilt University managed devices. This means that any devices issued from NUIT will come with Windows 11 installed.
This change follows the successful completion of necessary testing and validation, with applications, devices, and support processes ready for the rollout of Windows 11.
Why is this change necessary?
This upgrade brings many benefits to colleagues and the University, as Windows 11 offers:
- A more secure environment to better protect data and devices
- enhanced compatibility with current and future applications and updates
- improved performance and reliability for everyday tasks
- a cleaner, more intuitive interface to support efficient working
- ongoing support to keep devices up to date and reduce risk
What does this mean for me?
If you receive a new or replacement device from NUIT, it will come with Windows 11. Your current device will not be affected by this change.
Do I need to do anything?
No action is required. If you’re issued a new or replacement device, it will already be set up with Windows 11.
