IT Services over the Festive Holidays 2024

All University teaching, research and central administrative buildings will be closed, except for some 24hr clusters:

• Old Library User Area
• Catherine Cookson Building (Fell cluster)
• NUSU Hadrian Building cluster

The Students’ Union, including the level 2 cluster, will close from 16:00 on Friday 20 December until 08:00 on Monday 6 January.

IT Support

Over the festive period, calls to the IT Service Desk will be automatically forwarded to the Out-of-Hours Service on the following dates:

• 12:00 Wednesday 18 December until 08:00 Thursday 19 December 
• 17:00 Friday 20 December until 08:00 Monday 6 January 

As usual, the Out of Hours Service will provide 24/7 telephone support throughout, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day via our usual telephone number: 0191 208 5999.

If any IT service experiences issues during the holidays, please be advised that support will be limited. Any service disruption may persist until the University reopens.

Changing your phone or device? Don’t get locked out of your University account!

If you get a new phone over the festive period, don't forget to setup multi-factor authentication before disposing of your old device. 

You will need to authenticate using your old device to complete this process – don't reset your device or reinstall the authenticator app as this will disable the MFA method.

You can also authenticate by SMS message or recorded phone call. We recommend adding a phone number as a back-up method in the event you cannot authenticate through the authenticator app.
