Retirement of Zoom (31 July 2025)
Following a review of its video conferencing and collaboration tools, the University will discontinue its Zoom licence on 31 July 2025 and transition exclusively to Microsoft Teams on 1 August 2025.
Why move exclusively to Teams?
Microsoft Teams provides all the functionality needed for effective communication, meetings, and collaboration within a single seamless environment, eliminating the need to pay for two licences. Key benefits of Microsoft Teams include:
- Seamless integration with Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive, ensuring a more connected working experience
- Enhanced collaboration features including persistent chat, document co-authoring, file sharing, and task management, all within a single platform
- Comprehensive meeting and webinar capabilities, Teams supports large-scale meetings for up to 10,000 colleagues, breakout rooms, live captions, meeting recordings, and webinar functionality
- Improved security – recordings sit within a cloud environment administered by the University, benefitting from the same security measures as other content such as our documents in SharePoint
- Integrated telephony – the University's phased move to Teams Phone means that Teams will soon be our primary communication tool for phone calls, further unifying our communication channels
What support will be available?
Support is available for colleagues in the lead up to this change, including recorded webinars and direct engagement with colleagues in complex-use cases.
