Careers: External-facing online services

Service Description

The Careers Service offers a range of resources to help students & recent graduates research occupations and employers, explore furthers study options, search and apply for job vacancies and prepare themselves for the recruitment process.

Features

  • Research information on how to develop employability skills.
  • Search for job vacancies and create email alerts based on specific criteria.
  • Research employers in the north-east known to offer graduate employment opportunities.
  • Prepare for job interviews by sitting practice tests and recording sample interviews.
  • Submit their own interview experiences and view those submitted by other users.
  • Allows graduates of the last 3 years to register to use the Careers Service resources.
  • Submit placement preferences and book sessions for the Career Development Module.
  • Book places on selected Careers Service workshops and events.

Users

Potentially all current students and graduates who have graduated within the last 3 years.

University staff, particularly student-facing staff within the Careers Service (Careers Advisers, Information Officers, etc).

Service Hours

Consultation, advice and guidance:  09:00-1700, Monday to Friday, excluding university closure periods.

Online resources: 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The NUIT “at risk” period is 07:00-09:00 every Tuesday. Further planned maintenance times will be publicised in advance if there will be a disruption to the service.

Level of Service

Target availability of online resources: 99.9% of service hours, excluding advertised planned maintenance downtime.

Request Process

Requests for developments to any aspect of the service should be submitted via the IT Service Desk on 0191 208 5999 or https://nuservice.ncl.ac.uk

Requests relating to any service failure will be handled according to the NU-IT Request Fulfilment process and dealt with within five working days.

Requests for major developments to the system will be assessed by the Careers Service IT Project Board which meets on a monthly basis.
