What is a category?

Categories help group together Wiki pages. i.e. a category "The Beatles" could hold all pages in the Wiki relating to the legendary 60s pop group (for more information, see the Wikipedia definition)

Adding a new Category quickly

1. Create a new page

2. At the bottom of the Editing window, enter: [[:Category:name]]

(the preceding colon tells to the Wiki to create a new category so the page you create will act as a "homepage" for that category - any text on this page should simply provide a brief description of the category. When adding a page to this category, repeat the action without the preceding colon i.e. [[Categoty:name]] to assign a page to a category)

3. Then save the page as usual - to view the category navigate to: https://wikis.ncl.ac.uk/groupName/wiki/index.php/Category:name
