Cluster Software

Central Clusters

The IT Service provides a number of standard PC clusters and a number of specialist PC clusters, all clusters contain the standard set of software packages which include (in addition to standard software such as a pdf reader, flash player and media players).

CAD Clusters

There are a number of CAD clusters which in addition to the standard run

AutoDesk AutoCAD 2018

CES Edupack 2018

These are located in the Tree (Stephenson Building), Yard (Old Library) and Hub (Student Union) Clusters. The Old Library and Student Union clusters are open 24 hours. All machines have specialist hardware capable of running large simulations. Please give priority to students needing to use specialist CAD/CAE software.  CAD PCs are identifiable as having an orange login screen, if you do not need to use specialist software, please move to a standard PC (blue login screen) when asked.

Ansys and Inventor have also been made available in clusters which have had newer PCs installed. The PCs have been deemed good enough to run this software and they can be found in the Daysh Cluster, Armstrong Cluster, King George VIth Cluster and the 3rd and 4th Floors of the Robinson Library.

Legacy Apps

A number of subjects require access to some older apps. Your module leader will inform you if you need to access it. You access the apps at http://legacyapps.ncl.ac.uk. You need to access the apps via Internet Explorer and Change the preferences to use Java under the settings menu and ensure Java is selected and then saved.

SAgE Clusters

Please note some clusters may only allow School members to login. If you need access to software in a cluster that is currently not open to you please log a NUService ticket stating the room, the software and the reason you require access.
