To maintain a secure network all devices on the network must either use authentication or be registered before being allowed to connect. All staff machines that are directly connected don't use authentication so must be registered.

Devices can only be registered by IT Service colleagues.

Since there is no authentication, computers must be located in a secure locations such as staff offices and laboratories.

There is a network website where machines can be registered at http://connect.ncl.ac.uk/
