New and replacement Smartcards
Obtaining New, Guest or Replacement Lost & Stolen Smartcards
For new and replacement staff smartcards, please contact the Library by using the Staff Smartcard Request form.
For replacement student smartcards, please go to Student Services (currently based in Great North House) during opening hours, or contact the Library by using the Student Smartcard Request form.
For Building Access smartcards (such as those given to contractors or temp agency workers) contact the University Library in the first instance by emailing LibraryHelp. Please title your email “New Buildings Access Smartcard Request”.
We do not post smartcards. All smartcards must be collected on campus, in person.
Smartcards will only be replaced free of charge if:
- the status of the owner has changed
- the smartcard chip becomes inoperable, but not due to negligence of the owner
- a police crime note can be produced to indicate the card was lost due to a reported theft
Alternatively, the fee payable will be £5.
Please treat your smartcard as you would a credit card, and bear in mind its value. Your smartcard is:
- Your official University ID
- How your attendance is confirmed in lectures
- Your library membership card for loans and night door access
- Your key to most University buildings and rooms on campus
If you find a Smartcard please hand it into The Philip Robinson Library.
To report your smartcard lost or stolen, please phone: +44 (0)191 208 7662
Important
Please refer to smartcard access into buildings and rooms for information on what to do to ensure your replacement smartcard continues to give you access around campus.
