Smartcard Categories and Statuses

Staff

Issued to full-time and part-time members of University staff who are paid directly by Newcastle University.

Allows automatic access to the University libraries (Philip Robinson, Walton, Law and Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms) and the computing clusters (including 24-hour clusters) around campus.

Associate Staff

Issued to members of staff who are not paid directly by the University (such as visiting lecturers and visiting researchers) or colleagues on zero-hour contracts.

Allows automatic access to the University libraries (Philip Robinson, Walton, Law and Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms) and the computing clusters (including 24-hour clusters) around campus.

Postgraduate Student

Issued to all postgraduate students.

Allows automatic access to the University libraries (Philip Robinson, Walton, Law and Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms) and the computing clusters (including 24-hour clusters) around campus.

Undergraduate Student

Issued to all undergraduate students.

Allows automatic access to the University libraries (Philip Robinson, Walton, Law and Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms) and the computing clusters (including 24-hour clusters) around campus.

NHS and NHS Access

Issued to NHS staff employed within the North East and North Cumbria in order to become members of the University Library.

Community

Issued as a University Library membership smartcard to alumni of Newcastle University as well as a range of reciprocal and corporate partners and individuals. For more information on these schemes and how to apply, please see www.ncl.ac.uk/library/in-the-community/joining-the-library.

Access

Issued to users of the University facilities who are not employed by or studying at Newcastle University.

For example: fee-paying members of the Sports Centre, fee-paying patrons of the University car parking facilities, or contractors working on campus.

This category has no automatic University Library borrowing or access rights.
