Achiever Sample Tracking
Service Description
The Achiever software provides a system which meets all regulatory requirements in support of The Human Tissue Act* (2004). The system provides traceability and offers readily available access to sample data by relevant staff and specifically the Designated Individual on the Newcastle University Research HTA Licence to comply with the University’s responsibilities.
*The Human Tissue Act (2004) provides the legal framework which governs all aspects of human tissue acquisition, handling, and disposal. Human tissues, known as “relevant material” under the Act, must be carefully controlled.

Service Hours
The Achiever system is available online 24/7, though core hours are 09:00-17:00.
Note: the Service Desk operates support hours 08:00 – 17:00 Monday-Friday (excl. University closure days).
Note: The NUIT “at risk” period is 07:00-09:00 every Tuesday. Further planned maintenance times will be publicised in advance if there will be a disruption to the service.

All incidents relating to this service will be handled according to the IT Service Incident Management process.
Request Process
All potential users of the Achiever Sample Tracking System must be nominated by the Person Designated (PD) within their department. The PD then will raise a ticket.
Requests for any other aspect of the service should be made via IT self-service at https://nuservice.ncl.ac.uk/, or contact the IT Service Desk on extension 5999.
All requests relating to this service will be handled according to the IT Service Request Fulfilment process.
User Responsibility
Access to Achiever is via staff university logins. It is the member of staff’s responsibility to keep their login and password details safe.
