Campus Wireless Service
The Campus Wireless Service is available to all staff and students across campus and in some halls of residence. The service uses the wireless network newcastle-university.
It's the time of year again when we need to update the certificate files used by the Wireless service.
We are planning to update the certificate file used for WiFi on Thursday 28th July 2022 from 10am.
For more information visit the page Wi-Fi Certificate Update (2022)
Connect to Campus WiFi
Most devices can be connected to the campus Wi-Fi as follows:
- Select the newcastle-university WiFi network
- Enter your University username and password when prompted
or for eduroam
- Select the eduroam WiFi network
- Enter Univeristy username@ncl.ac.uk and password when prompted
You will now be connected.
If you fail to connect it is likely your device requires the use of the Wi-Fi certificate file.
Check your Wi-Fi settings and select Ignore Certificates or Do not validate, alternatively you can use the eduroam CAT tool (see below) to install a profile including the Wi-Fi certificate file.
Wi-Fi On BoardingIf you were unable to connect by just entering your username and password, you should configure WiFi for your device using the eduroam CAT tool. This is software that will install a Wi-Fi profile including a certificate file for the campus network. You will need to get online first. Connect to the Internet using either 3G, the guest Wi-Fi service or a wired connection. Users can also visit the Service Bar in the Old Library user area to gain temporary Wi-Fi access. If you are using Android then there are specific instructions you can follow, otherwise use these instructions to use the eduroam CAT tool.
