WiFi Certificate Update (2025)
From 11:00am on 9th December 2025, we’ll be making some updates to the university WiFi certificate, which may affect your connection to the service.
How this may affect you
If you have simply entered your university login and password to configure WiFi, and you have chosen to ignore certificates, the service will continue to work as before. You may be asked to re-enter your login and password to connect to WiFi after the change.
IMPORTANT You should stop ignoring certificates and re-install using the CAT tool to install and enable certificates as they protect your login from Man in the Middle attacks.
Users that have configured with TOFU (Trust on First Use) will need to forget the newcastle-university and eduroam networks and then reconnect.
If you configure WiFi using the eduroam CAT tool, you will need to update to the latest version and install the "All Users (Both Certs - Dec 2025)" profile to onboard the latest certificate files. This profile includes the current and new certificates so you can update your WiFi configuration in advance of the switch over date 9th December.
If you lose connectivity on 9th December, use 3G, the WiFi Guest service or a wired connection to get on the Internet. Then visit cat.eduroam.org and use the CAT tool or geteduroam app (available from your app store) as directed, to connect to WiFi.
