AVD Software
Core Software Applications:
Most core applications available in standard University Clusters can also be accessed remotely via the following desktops:
- Central Clusters Desktop
- HASS Desktop
- FMS Desktop
These desktops provide the same versions of software that run on campus cluster PCs.
Specialised Teaching Applications:
If you need subject-specific software, please use the School Desktop that matches your course area.
For example:
- Chemical Engineering students should use the Chemical Engineering & Advanced Materials Desktop. A list of all specific software required for your school.
Academic Software available for 2025/26
The table below shows all software available on the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform. Each entry lists the School Desktop, the software that is installed and the version provided.
In addition, under ‘Core Applications’ a list is provided of software that is available on all desktops.
Note: In some cases, applications may only be available in Physical Labs due to licensing restrictions or other complications.
How to Request Additional Software
- For students: Requests for additional teaching software must be made through your Module Leader, Degree Programme Director, or another academic involved in delivering your course.
- For academics:
- Any configuration changes or software upgrades must be agreed in consultation with all academic staff who have requested the package.
- The only exception is Security Updates, which NUIT will apply automatically.
- If you require an older version of software (different from the version currently deployed) for technical reasons, please complete the Unsupported Version Request form. A member of the team will then contact you.
