MFA and your privacy

One of the requirements of account registration is to confirm alternate contact details; usually a phone number. This can be used to confirm your identity, for example, if you’ve forgotten your University password.*

Any personal data provided during the registration process is encrypted and secured. It is used for the purpose of verifying your identity in relation to your Newcastle University account and for no other purpose, by either Microsoft or Newcastle University.

For further information on data protection at Newcastle University can be found at https://www.ncl.ac.uk/data.protection/

*Please be aware that in the event that you require a password reset or an authentication code, you may need to accept a phone call from the number you provide. This means that if you provide your University desk phone number, you will need to be at your desk to take the call.
